Our Team's Vision

At Dubkii India, each member of our team brings their unique perspective and expertise to create an enriching learning experience. I envision the centre as being a cozy, comfortable nook in Goa where one may initiate oneself into all that is India, beginning of course with learning its language but far from ending at it. As curator of the cultural side of all things at the centre, I imagine my role as that essential pivot between theory and practical application; whether it be a gentle workshop on the miniature painting of Kangra, a guided tour of the capital city Delhi, or some time in the Ayurvedic kitchen, you will love it!

Hindi mit Daria zu lernen war keine typische Sprachkurserfahrung — und ich meine das im besten Sinne! Der Unterricht war sehr abwechslungsreich und interaktiv gestaltet: einerseits haben wir wichtige grammatikalische Grundlagen gelernt und uns Vokabeln angeeignet, andererseits haben wir aber auch viel geübt, frei miteinander zu sprechen und einiges über die indische Kultur gelernt. Daria ist auf die Stärken und Schwächen der Schüler*innen eingegangen. Sie wird mir immer als sehr aufmerksame und kompetente Lehrerin in Erinnerung bleiben, die mich ermutigt und motiviert hat, weiterhin Hindi zu lernen. (2023)

Learning Hindi with Daria was not a typical language course experience—and I mean that in the best sense! Moreover, the lessons were very diverse and interactive: on the one hand, we learned essential grammatical foundations and acquired vocabulary; on the other hand, we practiced speaking freely with each other and learned a lot about Indian culture.Furthermore, Daria adapted to the strengths and weaknesses of the students. I will always remember her as a very attentive and competent teacher who encouraged and motivated me to continue learning Hindi.(2023)

I had already taken three courses in Hindi at my university when Daria became the substitute teacher for my fourth and final course. With good knowledge of reading, grammar, and vocabulary, I struggled with listening and speaking. I felt a bit nervous when Daria explained her teaching methods, which relied more on having conversations and applying grammar during those conversations rather than reading textbook dialogues or doing grammar exercises.

At first, it felt overwhelming. I only picked up a few words and tried to make sense of them. When I wanted to say something, I often didn’t know how to formulate my thoughts and felt the urge to switch back to German (which I tried many times, but Daria remained resolute and encouraged me to express myself in Hindi). It was intense, as I had many one-on-one lessons. (Imagine me, struggling with speaking and listening, and then spending the next 90 minutes doing exactly that. I admit I wasn’t always thrilled about the upcoming lesson.)

However, after a few sessions, I noticed a difference. I could follow Daria more easily, even when she spoke faster. I became more confident in my own skills, and the urge to switch back slowly declined. It became more of a challenge not to use German and to get creative with the words I knew to express my thoughts. Most of all, I felt secure and knew I could take my time. This helped me immensely to lose my fear of embarrassing myself when speaking Hindi.

Furthermore, Daria connected the lessons to Indian history, movies, and also anything I wanted to discuss, which helped me learn not only the language but also more about India. She was always flexible and adapted the course if something was too difficult or if another subject was more interesting. I am very happy that Daria became my teacher and helped me learn more about the language and the country, while also growing as a person and overcoming my fear of speaking another language. (2023)

The idea of a language school in India, solely focused on helping learners master communication in Hindi, has been a long-awaited dream. Now, thanks to Daria Chauhan’s brilliant vision, this dream has become a reality. I have been watching Daria and many of her Hindi-related projects closely for the past five years: she is a truly remarkable teacher!
